Eliminate snacks???

My doctor has said that as people, we often "eat too much".  He has recommended that I eliminate snacks from my diet.  This is a major shift in thinking for me as I had become accustomed to 3 meals and 3 snacks per day, eating every 3 hours.  I am told that whole foods with fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein at meals will help to satisfy and reduce hunger.
